“What’s in a name? That which we call a rose
By any other name would smell as sweet.”
Shakespeare, Romeo + Juliet
What to call myself in my new consulting role was a greater challenge than I anticipated. And I didn’t expect any challenge in this regard.
When I began the business, I initially lent towards “Founder.” But every time I tried to say it, I kept linking it in my head with the movie about Ray Kroc, of McDonald’s fame. It just didn’t work for me.
Then I considered calling the role “Chief Executive.” While I might think I am the CEO of our household, that wasn’t the image I wanted to project either.
Nor was Director of Communications. That made me feel like I was trying too hard to pump up my own tyres.

What I now know is that I was suffering from an unwanted case of “imposter syndrome.” I was genuinely concerned about not wanting to misrepresent myself.
Then I realised that I would be my authentic self, and know I had something of value to offer.
My experience, expertise, values and commitment.
Not everything needs to be perfect immediately; just good enough for now.
You can learn everything else along the way.
Once I accepted it, it became easy. I am what I have always known about myself and what I excel at.
I am a Communications Strategist. And now I have a business card to prove it.
So, thank you, dear Mr. Shakespeare, once again your message has stood the test of time, and a lesson is learned.
PS: Bless ChaptGPT for this additional endorsement!

By any other name would hold the same goal.”
