Is there a ghost in the workplace?

This Halloween, let’s confront an all-too-common spectre — the ghost in the workplace.

Sometimes hard to spot; sometimes you are not sure if you believe what you’ve seen.

But it happens. And is more common than we’d like to admit.

Yes, we all get busy, and lapses in communication happen.

When ghosting becomes a pattern, it erodes trust, relationships and professional credibility.

My ghost-busting suggestions:

🎃When you walk past a colleague regularly, at least say hello or smile to acknowledge them.

🎃When an application is lodged, appreciate that job-hunting is tough, so provide a short email to acknowledge their effort.

🎃When a contractor lodges an expression of interest for a project, ensure they receive feedback if they are unsuccessful.

🎃When a cold call proposal or sales email is received, don’t be annoyed, just say thanks but no thanks if you are not interested.

🎃Lastly, try not to be the former teammate who only calls because they need a reference.

This Halloween, remember to stay human!

If you’ve lost contact with someone, take a moment to reconnect.

You might be surprised by how far a small gesture of courtesy can go.
